Benjamin Stone, PhD

During his undergraduate degree at The University of Central Arkansas, where, he would later become a lecturer, Benjamin Stone first developed his appreciation of human physiology. He then went on to study at the University of Oxford where he obtained advanced degrees in the Science and Medicine of Athletic Performance.
During his time as a student at Oxford, he worked on numerous doctoral research projects at the British Olympic Medical Institute, Brunel University, and worked with the Oxford Neutraceuticals Group. His specialties include training through modes of endurance exercise that focus specifically on individual energy systems, isometric resistance training, carbohydrate oxidation, and metabolic laboratory analysis.
Ben has trained hundreds of athletes who have participated in sports ranging from motocross to ultra-running.
While at Oxford, Ben rode for the Oxford University Cycling Team, won the British Central Division Championship Race, and earned a Silver Medal in the British Universities Sports Association (BUSA) Team Time Trial. Ben was also a member of Exeter College 1st VIIIs rowing team which participated in the Oxford Summer VIIIs Regatta and won top honors at the Burway Regatta in 2005.
Ben has spent many seasons as an endurance athlete and has a passion for increasing the performance of endurance athletes regardless of their sporting pursuits. Ben is an active runner, mountain and road cyclist, adventure racer, triathlete, and rower.
As the founder of Sigma, Ben has a refined belief that the most efficient method of training lies in the profound understanding of the specific energy systems that power athletes throughout training and racing. This, combined with the assertion that nutrition is the true foundation of physiological recovery and adaptation, allows Sigma to adopt a methodology and training experience that is truly unique in the coaching marketplace.
