CEO and Wellness Warrior

Whether sailing, playing soccer, or snowboarding, Gaby was a competitive athlete her entire life until diagnosed with ovarian cancer at the age of 29.  Post cancer she gained 60 lbs from steroids, and for the first time in her life she was overweight and unfit.  Gaby went to a fitness retreat to help lose weight and her success during the retreat, coupled with helping numerous others make major lifestyle changes, made Gaby realize her true purpose of “empowering others to find and live their passion.”   Along with fighting and beating cancer, this realization inspired Gaby to leave her career in the ski industry to develop Peak Wellness Retreat, Vail’s newest all-inclusive wellness experience opening this June.   Prior to Peak, Gaby was a Marketing Executive in the ski and sports industry for over ten years with global companies Vail Resorts, Marriott International, NASCAR, and Red Bull.  Gaby has four degrees in Finance, International Business, Marketing and Spanish from Saint Louis University and a keen business development sense. Gaby oversees the sales, marketing, communications and sponsorship relationships for Peak but is most excited about being on the floor side by side with Peak wellness guests, helping them discover their fullest potential.  She is passionate about her family, the mountains, making every day fun, adventure, snowboarding, sailing, being physically and spiritually healthy, and getting a little crazy every now and then.

Chef and Restaurant Owner

Kelly Liken, one of Colorado’s most promising and influential young chefs, was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her mother was an outstanding cook, constantly exploring new recipes and seeking out fresh products at the local farmers market, which led Kelly to develop her love for cooking in high school. At 18, she landed a job preparing salads at an upscale seafood restaurant. “From the moment I stepped foot into a professional kitchen, I knew it was where I wanted to be…it was like an epiphany,” Kelly recalls.  She went on to attend the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, where she graduated first in her class in 2002. She interned at the renowned Inn at Little Washington, outside of Washington, D.C., where Chef Patrick O’Connell introduced her to the techniques of refined American cuisine. After graduation, Kelly headed west to work at Splendido at the Château in Beaver Creek, Colorado. Her year-and-a-half tenure at the restaurant was significant, not only from a culinary perspective, but also because it was where she met her future husband, Rick Colomitz, who was working the front of the house.  In 2004 she opened her own restaurant Kelly Liken, one of the state’s most sophisticated dining destinations, where the restaurant’s cosmopolitan décor and progressive American cuisine are reflections of the owner/chef’s personality Kelly is passionate about her adopted home state. Her menu reflects the incredible bounty of Colorado and a reverence for the seasons and she always uses local produce, meats and fish.  Her loyal clientele relishes this approach, which ensures consistent freshness and endless variety.

Metabolic Prescription

To dramatically improve your endurance and performance you need a comprehensive scientific approach.  The majority of the other fitness retreats fail to use medicine and science to develop your program.  Peak has partnered with Sigma Human Performance to administer their signature assessment: Advanced Metabolic Testing.  Not only is Sigma the foremost outlet for endurance training prescription, but their top level science lays the groundwork for diagnosing the single most effective program for your metabolism.  At the Metabolic Prescription at Peak, our integrative health team couples the results of these assessments with the results of your blood work and doctors exam to prescribe training based on key metabolic features that are not only trackable, but necessary to help you reach your peak athletic potential. We are founded on one principal: efficiency.  By packaging together nutrition, strength and conditioning, life coaching, behavioral psychology, physical therapy, and cardiovascular training, we help you make significant strides in improving your health.  No matter your current health state, you’ll experience significant improvements in metabolic fitness, sports performance and mental strength.

Problems We Solve

Today, more than ever, Americans are faced with serious health issues like chronic pain, chronic fatigue, obesity, diabetes, insomnia, cardiovascular disease and more.  These disease states and conditions are touching everyone regardless of age, height or weight.

At PWR we believe in the need to assess each individual client and develop a plan to guide and support them in their specific health journey.  Disease occurs in the body when there is a breakdown of self care.  Nutrition and life choices greatly impact ones’ ability to thrive and live a long, healthy life.

The team at PWR will assess your health needs, and provide a collaborative approach to care for you and your body!  During your stay, you’ll jumpstart your health, and achieve goals like weight loss, increased energy, reduced pain, and more.

You’ll also gain insight in the areas of life balance and fulfillment.  The choices we make in this life are just as important as the choices we make around food; often a choice in one area can feed a choice in the other.  You’ll walk away from this experience feeling more aware of the needs of your body, and understand how to balance life so you live all of your days to the fullest.

While a short-term boost in health is part of our goal, the more important thing to us is that you are successful for the long term.  With the PWR team supporting you, the education materials in hand, and your tenacious spirit you’ll be able to achieve health goals such as: eliminate pain and inflammation in the body, achieve your ideal weight, increase energy, sound sleep, healthy cholesterol and blood pressure, and the ability to fight disease for the long term.

Our Story

Peak Wellness Retreat was founded with two things: Passion and Science. Founders Lauren Arnold and Gaby Milhoan are not the experts in integrative medicine, metabolic fitness or nutrition but they have found the very best professionals in each field and brought them together to create a simplified, customized experience.  They come from different backgrounds, Lauren a competitive triathlete recovering from major knee surgery and Gaby a cancer survivor on her own weight loss journey.  Although “fitness” has a very different definition to each of them, they have several values in common that serve as the foundation of Peak: pursuit of healthy living, yearning for adventure, desire to help others, and a love for all things active and outdoors.  Lauren and Gaby met working on the same marketing team at a ski resort, and soon after realized that both of their hearts were calling for them to pursue their passion of helping others reach their full potential.  After one conversation and a week-long trip together to a fitness camp, the idea of Peak Wellness Retreat was born.  Soon after they both quit their day jobs to focus on developing their idea, and just 9 months later, Peak opened in Vail.

The Peaks’ story in founder Gaby Milhoan’s words “When I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2009, I chose an alternate treatment path that resulted in a successful outcome, but caused me to gain 60 pounds from steroids.  For the first time in my life I was overweight and uncomfortable in my own skin.  I entered remission in May 2011 and had to do something fast.  Not only to help me get the weight off but to teach me how to live a healthier life so I could take control of my cancer. I turned to a fitness retreat in Los Angeles, where I lost 30 lbs in 4 weeks and met some of the most incredible and influential people in my life to this day.  During my time there I got to play a role in helping many others lose weight.  I had coached soccer, snowboarding and volleyball, but never before felt so empowered to motivate others towards a goal; I had found my calling.  Just two months later, I got pregnant with my daughter and gained back the weight I lost plus 40 pounds. Although this was an awesome time in my life full of joy, love, and gratefulness, it was also incredibly disheartening to yet again lose my athleticism, confidence and physical strength.  I returned to a fitness retreat in July of 2012 and this time drug Lauren with me.  Seeing the retreat environment through Lauren’s eyes helped me realize that the science and physiology piece was majorly missing.   Although successful in the retreat setting, I wasn’t set up for success at home.  Fixing this problem immediately became the foundational premise of Peak. Every decision we have made, partnership we have pursued, and value we have defined has been grounded by two principles: following our passion and becoming the best scientific and medically based wellness retreat in the world.  Peak is not just another fluffy retreat where you eat clean for a week, return home feeling a little healthier, then return to your old habits.  We focus on lifelong learning and the physiology behind the change your specific metabolism needs.  We know there is no one-size fits all solution to healthier living.  I am still on my personal quest for losing weight and defining what living healthy means to me.  I’ve seen firsthand what’s missing at the other retreats and have made it my personal mission to make sure that Peak includes all the pieces to equip you with the tools that will finally help you succeed for good.  I will be in the trenches with you.  Through partnerships with top experts in each of their fields, we have built what we believe is an amazing, life-altering experience.   We are honored to be working with such an incredible team and grateful to live our passion of helping others live at their peak through science, fitness, and adventure.”
